Isaiah Samuels, a 7th grader of Northeast Christian Academy, is the 2016 1st place winner of the African American National Spelling Bee Championships, Inc. ("AANSBC"). 
 
Jacqueline Terrell is Executive Director of AANSBC a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2010 by Houston businessman Robert Garner. 
 
In this episode we discuss:
  • Isaiah's preparation leading up to the event.
  • Best practices for competition.
  •  The development of  AANSBC. 
The mission of the organization is to train students in grades 6-8 in decoding and spelling techniques to enable them to expand their literacy skills and knowledge, improve language development and increase reading and writing levels. Orthopedic surgeon turned dermatologist, Dr. Barbara Sturm transferred her knowledge into a successful skin care line. Her products have been used by a number of celebrities along with the collaboration with Angela Bassett to create a skincare line for women of color.
